Day 16: Showers!

This morning we had quite an adventure! We were planning on showering at a local high school, but since they were refinishing a floor or something we weren't able to. After trying for about 20 minutes or so to come up with another place we could shower at, we resigned ourselves to washing our hair with the frigid water from the hose at our campsite. (Mind you, the girls were so desperate for a shower that they were considering going and knocking on some random person's door and asking to use their shower) Once we got back, though, one of the cooks had contacted a local pool that said they'd let us use their showers. Hallelujah! We quickly got everything together for the rest of the day and rushed to take showers. Let me tell you, trying to get 50+ women to take a shower in a very short amount of time took some doing! Even with 9-11 showerheads....it's quite a challenge!! But we were able to get everyone showered and still make it to the ferry on time!

We took the ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor (which is on San Juan island). There we had like 30 minutes to check out some of the shops. I got the cutest little sand dollar charm for my bracelet. And it was pretty cheap, too! woot! From Friday Harbor, we caught a ferry that stopped by Orcas, Shaw, and Lopez islands. On Lopez island, we spent a little bit of time and listened to a member talk about living there. Apparently for church, all who can make it catch the ferry to Friday Harbor and attend there. Otherwise, the members on the island all get together and...dial in?...to listen to the meeting in Friday Harbor. It was kind of interesting! Especially since it's such an old system that if one place loses connection, they all have to re-connect in order to be able to listen in. Pretty cool!

After Lopez island, we caught the ferry back to Anacortes, where we had dinner. It was pretty fun. I think it was this day that we watched a movie back at our campsite. Sister Dickson had brought a projector and her computer and we watched The Emperor's New Groove and had pretzels, Pirate's Booty, candy, and hot chocolate. Mmm! It was a lot of fun.

I am so grateful today for being able to shower! It was so nice! Especially since we didn't shower yesterday! It's times like this that really make you appreciate having warm, running water with which to get clean.
