Little White Lie

Okay, so I kinda lied in the last post, where I said there wasn't much going on. But, we were kinda waiting for a few weeks for our big announcement. So, now that I'm 12 weeks along, here's the news: I'M PREGNANT!!! We are so excited to finally get the opportunity to be parents. It's been a long time coming, but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. =) Oh, and I'm due June 15th, in case you were wondering.

hmm...

So I feel bad about not updating more frequently, but there just hasn't been a ton going on in our lives!

Last weekend, my cousin got married. It was so cool to be down there for it and to see the whole family. I seriously was like BAWLING at the end. It was pretty bad. She looked absolutely gorgeous and her husband seems like a good guy. I would have liked to be able to get to know him a little more, but oh well. There'll be plenty of time for that over the next 20 years ;) lol

Other than that, we've just been going to school and working. We have a TON of leaves that we need to get raked up this weekend (if you want to help, we wouldn't say no, lol). Thanksgiving is next weekend. Jeremy's dad is in Delaware tonight and tomorrow for a job interview driving for Walmart. We're keeping our fingers crossed because this would be such a blessing to his family; he deserves a good job after putting up with a crappy one for so long. The quarter ends in about 2 weeks. (That's uber exciting) I'm excited to decorate for Christmas! I seriously have been itching to decorate for a few weeks now but I've been trying to hold off until Thanksgiving. I've got over half of my Christmas shopping for this year done. woot! Last year I was going out like 2 days before Christmas to finish up...hopefully I won't have to do that this year.

I decided to go ahead and take some classes next quarter. The class I needed to finish up ended up being in the middle of the day, which would make it hard to find a job, so I figured I'd just take some easy classes, get my financial aid, and do workstudy for another quarter before heading out into the work force.

Umm...I think that's about it. Sorry for the rambling nature of this post...I'm super tired and my brain isn't functioning super well. Hope you all are good!

promised update

I promised an update, so here goes:

School started the 22nd of last month. My schedule rocks because I only have classes 2 days a week, basically from 1-8 with a 2 hour break in the middle (during which I have to drive out to Riverpoint) So that leaves me 3 days free (well, 4 if you count Saturday) to work. =) I got my old workstudy job back so I'm going to try and frontload my hours this quarter so they'll be all used up by the end of the quarter so if things come up with school or if I end up finding another job I'll have gotten as much out of my award as possible.

Jeremy is taking some rough classes this quarter, but he's doing really well in them so far. He's working at the rock wall at the rec center again and also has a workstudy award that he's going to use at the same place as me. =) He's been really busy, but I'm uber proud of him.

The first week of the quarter we bought a new laptop. It's a Toshiba Satellite and it rocks. We absolutely love it. The old one still worked, but it kept freezing and having tons of problems which were not fun to deal with when you're on a tight timeline to get homework done. We couldn't be happier with our purchase and we're super excited to finally have a computer that works again!

Hmm...what else...I've been doing a few check-ins and check-outs here and there. It's mostly died down since the major crunch time is over, but the 30th was pretty crazy because it was the end of the month. I had 4 people call to schedule checkouts, but I only ended up doing 2 because I had classes from 2-10 that day.

Oh! I found out on Thursday that I don't have to enroll in classes next quarter! I've got one class that I need to finish up (long story short, the professor I was working on it with transferred to WSU and last I heard they weren't sure who was going to teach the class now, so I'll probably have to start over with the new professor. I'll either have to attend class and have the teacher replace my grade from last year, or I'll have to see if the teacher will let me do it independent study.) Either way, I'll only have to schedule work around (at most!) 1 class next quarter, so it'll really free up my schedule for work! So the aim is to find a job this quarter that I can do next quarter (and for however long afterwards.) If not, the backup plan is to take some more classes and get financial aid and workstudy next quarter as well. But, the end is in sight!! I'm so excited!

Anywho, I think that's about it. How about Conference last weekend? Wasn't it AMAZING?!?

just a lil note

Some days it is just too easy to feel sorry for myself. =(

But, on a lighter note, we got a new computer! It's a Toshiba Satellite laptop and it's AWESOME! It was totally time for a new one and Jeremy and I are uber stoked about it. =)

I'll do a longer and more update-filled post another time. Until then!

Some good quotes

So as I've been reading previous issues of the Ensign, I've come across some quotes I really like. Hopefully you find them as inspiring as I do. =)

“Obedience is a hallmark of prophets, but it should be realized that this source of strength is available to us today.”

-President Thomas S. Monson

“Save for those few who defect to perdition after having known a fullness, there is no habit, no addiction, no rebellion, no transgression, no offense exempted from the promise of complete forgiveness…Restoring what you cannot restore, healing the wound you cannot heal, fixing that which you broke and you cannot fix is the very purpose of the atonement of Christ.”

-President Boyd K. Packer

“I cannot get over the feeling that if revelation were needed anciently, when life was simple, that revelation is also needed today, when life is complex. There never was a time in the history of the earth when men needed revelation more than they need it now.”

-President Gordon B. Hinckley

“I plead with you, my brothers and sisters, that if you have any doubt concerning any doctrine of this Church, that you put it to the test. Try it. Live the principle. Get on your knees and pray about it, and God will bless you with a knowledge of the truth of this work.”

-President Gordon B. Hinckley

“I wish to say to everyone here, come to the temple. Live worthy to come to the temple. Live the commandments of God so that you may come to the temple. Do those things which will make you eligible to serve in the house of the Lord. It has been built for you, my brothers and sisters, that you might have the opportunity of coming here and receiving the wonderful blessings that can be had nowhere else in all the world, except in other temples, where you may be sealed together as husband and wife, where your children may be sealed to you, where you may work in behalf of your forebears, who have gone beyond. That great and marvelous and wonderfully unselfish work occurs in the house of the Lord. Come to the temple.”

-President Gordon B. Hinckley

“He has blessed you with the very essence of His power, with the authority to speak in His sacred name and bring to pass His work to bless, to teach, to encourage, to help, to govern in the affairs of His kingdom—the power of the royal priesthood. There is nothing simple or nothing to be taken for granted concerning this. This is His divine power.”

-President Gordon B. Hinckley

“[Jesus Christ’s] Atonement is the greatest event in human history. There is nothing to compare with it. It is the most fundamental part of our Father’s plan for the happiness of His children.”

-President Gordon B. Hinckley

“Children thrive on loving relationships that make them feel special. Encouragement and love are important, especially when things may not be going well.”

-Elder Donald L. Staheli

“Sincere prayers soften contentious thoughts.”

Days 37-40 + an extra

Wednesday (37) REST. I still had a couple of checkouts to do today, but it was nothing like as hectic as the past week has been, so that was a very welcome break. It's nice to have my life back now and have some time to FINALLY clean up my house, cook, and do all the other things I've been wanting to do but haven't had the time for.

Thursday (38) The internet. It makes turning in applications SO much easier! Especially when you can just copy & paste stuff straight across so you don't have to actually spend the time typing things up. =) Plus, the internet allows me to do all sorts of other stuff I like to do. woot!

Friday (39) An interview. It's been so long since I've actually gotten an interview for a job I've applied for. So it was really nice to actually get a call to schedule an interview. I think it went okay...I guess we'll see in a week or so. I did my best and I know the Lord was helping me, so now all I can do is wait. Hopefully things will turn out!

Saturday (40) New clothes! (And an awesome aunt (how's that for alliteration? lol) that brought them to me!) A couple of weeks ago, Shade had a mega blowout sale in Tri-Cities, so I requested that my mom go and see what they had. Mega good deals is what they had! I got a bunch of cami's for less than half of what they'd regularly cost! And I didn't have to pay for shipping! I am uber excited and I hope they last me until Shade comes back (and they MUST come back! I'm keeping the hope alive)

Sunday (40+) I would be very remiss if I didn't mention my gratitude for my Savior. He has done so much for me and He is always there for me. If I fall, He'll help pick me up and get me through the rough times. His arms are always stretched out toward me, even when I turn my back on Him. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Trying to develop an attitude of gratitude these past 40 days has been an amazing growth experience for me. I have learned so much about myself and have had my eyes opened to the MANY blessings I have. It has helped me be so much more pleasant to be around, I've had a better attitude, and life hasn't seemed so hard. I am so thankful for this experience and for all it has taught me. Here's to not letting this be the end of my attitude of gratitude!

Days 33-36

Saturday (33) Today I am grateful for previously cooked casseroles. I made a broccoli-corn casserole last night, and it was so nice today. I didn't have much time between checkouts, so when I had half an hour off, I was able to come home, reheat some casserole, and sit down to dinner. I didn't have to spend the whole half hour cooking and then hurriedly dish some up, dash off, and eat it in the car. It was awesome. =)

Sunday (34) Today I am so grateful for church and the ability I have to attend every week. I ended up having to do a few checkouts today, which really stunk, but I was able to attend Sacrament Meeting today and be spiritually fed. It totally made a difference in my day. I sang hymns while driving to/from checkouts, and even though I was working, I was able to feel the Spirit. It was great. I often take this blessing for granted and I'm glad that today I was able to have a little bit of a reality check.

Monday (35) Today I am grateful that I've only had one crazy tenant while checking out. I was a little annoyed because she basically wasted an hour of my time and I'm going to have to go back through and re-do the checkout, but someone pointed out that usually there's a few of those each year, and I've only had to deal with one. Hallelujah! I can't even put into words how thankful I am that it's only been one!

Tuesday (36) Today is the last day of all-day checkouts! I am doing 12 today (well, actually Jeremy is doing one of them so I can get off my feet for an hour in the middle of the day) and then I'm DONE! I might have 1-2 in the next few days, but I am over the hump! I'm going to make it through! I was getting pretty stressed out about things earlier, but for the most part things have gone pretty smoothly. I am looking forward to a big check! =)

Day 32: Sweet Professors!

So I am super stoked right now! I was going to have to take this yucky hard stats class for my major that I absolutely did NOT want to take. (To give you an idea, I walked in to the 2nd day of class and was completely lost! And I'm a math person!) So I talked to a professor I've taken a few classes with to see if she would talk to the department chair and see if I could possibly substitute her Sports Economics class for that nasty stats class. In her class, you use a lot of statistics and learn to manipulate them in real world circumstances. Then I'd just have to take another econ elective and I'd have my requirements done. Well, they decided that'd work! Woot!

The only stinky thing is I'm still going to have to stay in school an extra quarter because I was finishing up a class with a professor, but she is now working at WSU instead of Eastern. So I get to re-take the class with a different professor. Hopefully they'll still offer it winter quarter so I don't have to wait until Spring.

But, I will only have class 2 days a week! I'll basically go from 2-8 on Tuesday and Thursday, so I can probably find a part time job and be available to work on Mon, Wed, Fri, and Sat! =) Uber sweet!

Day 31: Takeout

So today since I was totally jam-packed with checkouts and Jeremy was busy mowing lawns and such, we decided to get takeout in the 30 minutes I had leftover since a checkout took less time than I'd planned. We went to Safeway and got their 2 person meal deal that's going on this week. For $10, it wasn't a bad deal, and the food was actually pretty decent. The orange chicken wasn't my favorite, but the kung pow (or whatever it was, I don't actually know) chicken was pretty dang good, and so was the chow mein. =) Plus, the only dishes we had to wash were the chopsticks I used! Bonus!

Days 27-30

Sorry I've been slacking at posting every day. I have officially hit "crunch time" and I am uber busy. For example, from tomorrow until Tuesday, I am booked from at least 8:30am-7:30pm every day. With no break for lunch. Hopefully at least one checkout will end early so I can run home and grab some lunch.

Sunday (Day 27) Nursery. Yeah, I know it's a weird one. Especially since a little over a year ago I couldn't wait to get out of there. I was asked to sub today, and I kinda didn't want to. I'll admit it. I really wanted to be able to go to Relief Society and see people since I have been on the go and unable to be in our ward for about a month now. But I went because I have this problem with saying no. (Now don't go taking advantage of me for that! I'm working on developing a backbone) Anyway, I got in and was kinda going through the motions and was a little bit irritated. But then one gal came in and was just sobbing because her mom was leaving her. I picked her up and put her on my lap and she calmed down a little bit. Eventually, she fell asleep in my arms. There was also this other little boy that, once he realized his mom had snuck out, started crying. I told him to come over and was going to have him sit on the carpet in front of me, but he came and sat on my lap (well, one side of it anyway, since I was still holding the other gal) instead. It was so cute because pretty much as soon as he sat on my lap he stopped crying. And he clung to me the rest of the day. That pretty much rocked my socks, I'm not going to lie. =)

Monday (Day 28) Sugar cookies. I made a batch so I could send some to my brother in the MTC since they're his favorite, and I had a blast. I had stocked up on frosting when it was on sale a while ago, and my mom had given me a ton of sprinkles, so I had fun decorating them all cute. =) Hopefully they arrive there in one piece lol.

Tuesday (Day 29) Fajitas. Mmm! I bought some steak last week that was on sale for a pretty good price, so today we decided to make fajitas. Jeremy cut it up in pieces and then we cooked it with some chili powder, cumin, and seasoning salt. And then we also fried up some bell peppers (we were going to do some onions too, but I went to grab some out of the freezer and realized we were out. sad day!) and loaded the goods into some slightly warmed tortillas. I had pepper jack cheese on mine and Jeremy had some mozzarella I believe. They were so tasty! And pretty darn healthy too! =)

Wednesday (Day 30) Pepto. Last night and this morning my stomach really wasn't feeling so hot. I have no idea why (unless it's from eating all the pepper jack cheese I've been eating...possibly the jalapenos in it?) Anywho, the pepto really helped, along with saltines and cherry 7up. And my wonderful husband did my 2 morning checkouts so I could sleep in and try to get over being sick. =)

Days 22-26

Tuesday (Day 22): Aloe Vera. Enough said. It soothes my burning skin and helps to prevent peeling. Awesome. And I've got this kind with painkillers built into it...MAGIC!!!!

Wednesday (Day 23): All the foods I am NOT allergic to. I might be allergic to nuts, but I'm NOT allergic to gluten, corn, soy, dairy, eggs, or so many other foods that could have been much worse. At least it's fairly easy to find things that don't have nuts in them. Some other foods....not so much. I got off pretty light.

Thursday (Day 24): Girls' nights. I had an absolute blast tonight talking to the 4 ladies that came over. Sorry we didn't get to watch the movie!! But it was sooo nice to be able to have some girl talk! Thank you for coming over and hanging out! We'll have to get together again soon!

Friday (Day 25): Fresh basil. Mmmmm! We picked some up a month or so ago to try a new recipe, and it has quickly become one of our favorite things ever! We made a salmon cheese ball (minus the walnuts lol) and would put part of a fresh basil leaf on each bite....wow, sooo awesome! And if you blend it up with a little bit of chicken broth and a few cloves of garlic, voila, instant pesto sauce that is DELICIOUS when you fry chicken up in it. I could seriously go on and on....I'm so glad we found out about this yummy little herb that is so much better FRESH!

Saturday (Day 26): Sales and coupons! Wow, how awesome! The people who lived here before us (not right before, but before them or something) must have had a JC Pennys card. Because we keep getting flyers and coupons addressed to them. And a few times there's been a coupon for $10 off a purchase of $10 or more. Score!! Today we went to see what they had on sale and if it was worth buying anything. We were able to find some Southpole polos that were on clearance for a little under $8. So we bought Jeremy 2, and after the $10 off coupon, it only cost a few cents over $6! For 2 shirts! Uber score!!! I was so dang excited! That's even better than Ross! And pretty close to the same price as going to Goodwill! =)

Monday, August 16, 2010

Day 21: Sunscreen

Today we went boating. It was a blast! It was during the day when everyone else was at work, so we had the river all to ourselves and the water was PERFECT for skiing! I had tried to put sunscreen on, but apparently the spray stuff didn't spray so well...so I am a crispy critter! It's not fun, but at least it should turn into a tan in a few days so I'll at least have a little bit of color lol. =) We also got to spend time with my Grandpa and Grandma Connolly. It was a ton of fun. Plus, we had carne asada, pico de gallo, frijoles (beans), arroz (rice), and tortillas. Mmm! I love me some Mexican food!!

Sunday, August 15, 2010

Day 20: Garrick

Today was Garrick's farewell. I am so proud of him! He is going to be such a great missionary! I am so thankful to have him as a brother. He is funny, kind (mostly lol), smart, spiritual, and all the brother I could ever ask for! (He is the one on the left in this picture. It's the only decent one I have of him right now.) I am going to miss him a TON and it definitely won't be the same going home to visit with his absence, but I know he is doing the Lord's will and work and that he will be blessed for it. I love you bro!

Day 19: My bed

Today I am so thankful for my own bed! I slept so soundly last night! I woke up early to take Nancy Gasper to the airport and then came home and went back to bed for another 5 hours or so. It felt soo nice! And I am thankful to my wonderful husband who did the checkout this morning so I could sleep longer!

Friday, August 13, 2010

Day 18: Home at last!

Today was lots of fun. We got up way early (5:30) to pack up camp so we could leave by 7:15ish to make it to the train. We caught the train at Mt. Vernon and rode it to Seattle. It was my first time on the train and it was a really fun experience. After we got off the train, we went to Pike's Place Market and shopped around there. Then, we hiked up to a mall (I forget which one) to catch the monorail down the Seattle Center. We got to go up to the top of the Space Needle! None of the girls knew beforehand (and the rest of us leaders only found out last night before testimony meeting) and it was such a cool treat for them. I had never been up to the top of the Space Needle before, so it was an awesome experience. After that, we went to the International Fountain next to it. It was a ton of fun. And we all got wet! I didn't even go down near it! We took a huge group picture on the ledge around it, and one time it squirted REALLY high and totally got EVERYONE wet! It was crazy!

After that, we started on our merry way home. We made a pitstop at the Seattle Temple to take some pictures, at North Bend to get dinner, at Ellensburg to fill up/catch up, and at Ritzville to drop off some girls before heading back to Cheney. It was a pretty uneventful trip for the most part. It was way late when we got back to Cheney, though. It was around 1:00 when we drove in and I got to bed around 2:00 after taking a shower and stuff. I had a ton of fun, but I am definitely glad to be home.

I am so thankful that we were blessed with a safe drive home and that no one got seriously injured on this trip!

Day 17: Being included

Today we were able to sleep in a little, which was uber nice. We then headed to Fort Casey where we were able to take a tour of the fort and learn about it. They're getting it ready for celebrating the centennial of Washington State Parks in 2013, so parts of it were pretty newly repainted and stuff. We got to see a couple of big cannons (they shot 10 inch projectiles). Fort Casey is pretty cool because from the water it just looks like a big hill. The top of the wall (where the guns are) is pretty much even with the hillside, so it's completely hidden. We had an awesome guide who showed us all over and explained what the numerous places & things were for. Then we headed over to the Admiralty Head Lighthouse. There we learned about the origins of lighthouses, how the lenses for the lights were made, and how they have evolved over time. One thing I thought was cool was that each lighthouse has a different light signal. They could have numerous sections in the lense with a 'bullseye' in the middle of each. So the number of "lights" could be different, the colors of the lenses could be different, and the speed of rotation could be different, giving each lighthouse a unique signal so ships could figure out where they were at.

After our tours, the girls were able to meet some of their pen pals. (our stake YW's president had relatives in the Mt. Vernon stake, so each girl was matched up with a girl in the other stake to write) After the initial meeting, we had some free time at the fort. Some people went back to the lighthouse, some explored the fort, some played on the beach, and some (including myself) flew kites. I had been lucky enough to be able to borrow my parents' stunt kite. So I had a lot of fun (and frustration!) re-learning how to fly it and doing some tricks with it.

After a few hours, we had dinner there with the other stake. We had hawaiian haystacks and s'mores. Mmm! Then we headed back to our campsite for our testimony meeting. Wow, was the Spirit strong there! It was such a spiritual experience and it was nice to be able to hear the girls' testimonies and have it be a safe place for them to share some experiences. It was really cool. I'm such a bawl baby that I brought a whole box of kleenexes especially for this night, and I'm glad I did. They got passed around the circle quite a few times so girls could wipe their eyes and their noses.

I am so grateful that I was able to go on this high adventure experience! I have learned so much and it has been such a great experience for me. Growing up, I sometimes felt like an outsider in my own ward/stake. I didn't really feel that accepted by many people. And it was especially hard once they split the ward and my friends weren't in there with me anymore. It was so cool because the girls this week just totally accepted me for who I was and they WANTED to hang out and be with me. It made such a huge impact on my life and I am so grateful for them and for their willingness to extend their love to me, whom most of them had never met before. It was great to be able to meet some other adults elsewhere in the stake that I had never met before either. They were such great examples of reaching out to others and making sure everyone was accounted for and was safe.

Day 16: Showers!

This morning we had quite an adventure! We were planning on showering at a local high school, but since they were refinishing a floor or something we weren't able to. After trying for about 20 minutes or so to come up with another place we could shower at, we resigned ourselves to washing our hair with the frigid water from the hose at our campsite. (Mind you, the girls were so desperate for a shower that they were considering going and knocking on some random person's door and asking to use their shower) Once we got back, though, one of the cooks had contacted a local pool that said they'd let us use their showers. Hallelujah! We quickly got everything together for the rest of the day and rushed to take showers. Let me tell you, trying to get 50+ women to take a shower in a very short amount of time took some doing! Even with 9-11 showerheads....it's quite a challenge!! But we were able to get everyone showered and still make it to the ferry on time!

We took the ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor (which is on San Juan island). There we had like 30 minutes to check out some of the shops. I got the cutest little sand dollar charm for my bracelet. And it was pretty cheap, too! woot! From Friday Harbor, we caught a ferry that stopped by Orcas, Shaw, and Lopez islands. On Lopez island, we spent a little bit of time and listened to a member talk about living there. Apparently for church, all who can make it catch the ferry to Friday Harbor and attend there. Otherwise, the members on the island all get together and...dial in?...to listen to the meeting in Friday Harbor. It was kind of interesting! Especially since it's such an old system that if one place loses connection, they all have to re-connect in order to be able to listen in. Pretty cool!

After Lopez island, we caught the ferry back to Anacortes, where we had dinner. It was pretty fun. I think it was this day that we watched a movie back at our campsite. Sister Dickson had brought a projector and her computer and we watched The Emperor's New Groove and had pretzels, Pirate's Booty, candy, and hot chocolate. Mmm! It was a lot of fun.

I am so grateful today for being able to shower! It was so nice! Especially since we didn't shower yesterday! It's times like this that really make you appreciate having warm, running water with which to get clean.

Day 15: Sunset parable

(First off...I'm sorry if I left anything out. I had saved an itinerary of the trip for when I blogged about it, but it got lost at my parents' this weekend. I had brought it down to tell them about my trip, but we never even got around to it, so it was kind of a waste. =( bummer!)

Today we started off the day by going clam digging. I had never gone digging for clams before, so it was a fun & new experience for me. I wish I'd had some aquasocks that wouldn't have let the rocks inside, but my sandals worked pretty well. We caught a TON of clams. You wait for the tide to go out, then watch for a squirt of water that tells you there's a clam there. Once you find one, you dig down next to it (not right above it or you could chop off their neck) and then go sideways with your hands once you've dug down next to it. We found lots of horse (or imperial) clams and some steamer clams, as well as a few crabs. There was a nice guy in the stake over there that allowed us to come and dig his private beach, which was so nice of him! Then we went to Rosario Beach (I think!) near Deception Pass again and just had some free time. Some of the girls went kayaking, some played in the water, some sunbathed & talked, etc. It was a lot of fun! Then we had a clam bake. We had clam chowder, fried clam strips, fresh Dungeness crab, hot dogs, and salads. Mmm! After dinner, we went up on a cliff, had a devotional, and then watched the sunset. It was so great! While watching it, I had this parable-esque thing come to mind:

So the sun set behind a cliff on an island/mass of land across the water. After about 30 seconds or so, the pretty colors started to develop. As time went on, the sky got more and more beautiful as the colors spread and deepened. I thought this had a parallel to our lives. We go through a trial-our own "dark age." It takes a little bit of time before we are able to see the growth and blessings that stemmed from that trial. As time goes on, you see more and more blessings develop because you went through that trial. I just thought it was a really neat analogy and could maybe help me keep my focus through my trials. They will pass, and I will be blessed because of them.

Day 14: YWHA

So, before I do my attitude of gratitude part, I just wanted to give you all a rundown of what happened today. (yes, I am in fact writing this post a week later, but I decided to use the actual date of when things happened so I could keep better track and it would be less confusing)

I caught a ride with the Dicksons to the church at way-too-early-thirty and got to meet some of my girls in my group. (well, all except one, who we were picking up in Ritzville. I have such an amazing group!) We then drove to Ritzville where we had an amazing breakfast. We then loaded back into cars and drove to Snoqualmie Falls. They were so awesome. (even though there was some huge equipment all over because they're building some sort of hydroelectric thing there). We also stopped at Deception Pass and Conway (or something like that) for ice cream. Man, those ice cream cones were GINORMOUS! I swear, there was at least a pint of ice cream on each cone. I got peppermint--yum! We ended the night by setting up camp.

Today I am so grateful for those who planned this trip! I know a TON of preparation must have gone into this to figure out which fun things we were going to do, when and how we are going to do them, and who all would be involved. I'm looking forward to this week!

(As a side note, I heard this cool parallel someone drew from Snoqualmie Falls. One of the girls commented on how calm the water was down below the falls, after it has gone through the turmoil of the waterfall. The parallel was that we go through the turbulent trial but we always have the promise of peace and calm afterwards. Kinda cool, huh?)

Days 11-13

Sorry, I'm really behind. In case you weren't already aware of that fact ;) Oh, and just a fyi, I'm not going to post anything tomorrow through Friday. I'm going on a high adventure trip with our stake's young women ages 14 or 15 to 17/18. So I will not have internet access. But, I will record them in my journal and input them when I get back. So look forward to a long post on Saturday or Sunday. (it may take me a couple of days to recuperate lol)

Day 11: Sleep. Oh how I love sleep. I really need to get back on a normal schedule though...especially before school starts up again. Staying up until 2 of 3 am isn't really conducive with attending classes... But it is so nice to be able to sleep in my own bed and get some really good quality sleep.

Day 12: REI. So there's a story with this. A few years ago, my mom bought me a pair of Chaco sandals before a trip. She had a pair with back straps and didn't like them so she suggested I get some without back straps. Well...after a while having them, I decided I would have rather gotten some with back straps so I could wear them in the water and hiking etc. But I didn't have the money to buy a second pair. Fast forward to a few weeks ago. I'd been having trouble getting the straps to move (with Chacos, there is one long strap that is looped around through the sandal above and below the footbed so it's fully adjustable) so my mom suggested I bring them down to REI because they could help me figure out how to move them. Well, I brought them in, and the lady couldn't get them to move either. Somehow they'd gotten stuck. So, since we'd bought them from that store within the past 5 years, they could look up the original purchase and swap me for a new pair. Woohoo! They didn't have the exact same one, so I got to pick a new one. And it had a back strap! I was so excited. The reason I'm bringing it up now after a couple of weeks is that I've been wearing them like crazy. They are SO comfortable and I'm wearing them more than I had ever worn my other ones. A much better use of the money, I'm thinking. And I have them in time to use them this coming week at the high adventure trip. We're going to the beach, so it'll be really nice to have a pair of sandals that won't come off my feet in the waves. And they're so much more comfortable than aquasocks. =) This is the new pair. (image credit)

Day 13: Good teachers. Especially those who teach me the gospel. Today in Relief Society we had a really fun lesson. We (or at least, I) grumbled about having to move the chairs in a different configuration, but it was a really good lesson. We played a version of Family Feud to learn about the Priesthood organization. There were treats as an incentive for the ladies to actually get up and participate (and they were FABULOUS!) and it was okay if you didn't know the answer; you could ring the bell and then have your team help you. (And your team members could be looking for the answers in the manual, lol) But I really learned a lot. And it could have been a boring lesson saying "Deacons do blah blah blah. Teachers do blah blah blah." But it wasn't. It was fun, but we also learned a lot. And I think I retained more information than if we'd just read out of the manual.

I've been blessed with some really good teachers throughout my life. Some were in church and some in school. And to me, being nice doesn't necessarily make you a good teacher. Perhaps nice isn't the word...it's more...some of my favorite teachers were pretty strict. But we knew their expectations and they made learning fun, so they were fun to have. But then again, I've always enjoyed learning. I was looking through a time capsule from elementary school a little bit ago and I was totally chuckling about how much of a nerd I was. A scientist? Me? Really? hahaha! But I digress. (lol!)

So thank you to all of you who helped this impatient, sometimes inattentive gal learn. Both secular knowledge and the truths of the gospel. I wouldn't be who or where I am without you.

Day 9: Air Conditioning and Day 10: My Planner

Oh my heavens, it's been hot lately! And I have been so glad we have an a/c in our apartment and in our cars! It's so nice to be able to come inside and NOT be dying of heat!

Lately things have been pretty crazy with checkouts. For example: I did 3 checkouts today and scheduled another 10. The last 2 days of the month, I'm doing 6-7 checkouts per day. And that's just so far. Gaah! But it's been so nice to have a planner again. It has become my brain. Literally. Well, maybe not, but it sure feels like that sometimes. So yeah, I'm thankful for my planner that keeps my head screwed on and prevents me from having things written on a billion sticky notes all around the house. =)

Day 7: New Days & Day 8: The Temple

Sunday was really rough, but I loved that Monday was a new day. A fresh opportunity. A chance to start over. It just really made me appreciate each new day I have. And it made me realize the validity of "sleep on it and start over in the morning" mentality.

Tuesday Jeremy and I were able to travel down to Tri-Cities and go through the temple with my brother, Garrick, as he prepares for his mission. It was such a cool experience. It's the first time since I went through for the first time that I had a bunch of family in the session with me. And it's the first time I've been able to go through with one of my siblings. It was just really neat. I felt the Spirit so strongly. I'm so thankful to have a temple so close (and to have 2 within 2 hours of my house) and I feel bad that I don't attend more often. One of my goals is to go more frequently. =)

Day 6: The Holy Ghost

Today was kind of a whirlwind of emotions. As I was getting ready for church, my sister in law, Erin, called to say she's officially engaged now. Apparently, he popped the question last night (after they went to Klinkerdagger's (sp?). So that was exciting. Then we went to church. Which was great. I was asked to sub in nursery and it was a ton of fun. I can't wait to have kids of my own. Then after church I was feeling a little hurt and left out because of a couple things, so I decided to turn on some inspirational music to keep a more positive outlook. And it was so nice. I just lay in bed listening to a Kenneth Cope cd about the Savior and His life. Then when we're out at my in-laws, we get some bad news about Jeremy's brother. Jeremy's parents left to go help him, and the rest of us got together and said a prayer. The spirit that was in that room was incredible. I know that the Lord was sending us some strength and comfort. This was especially evident after Jeremy's parents got back. His mom usually would have just been a wreck after something like this, but she was pretty calm. Jeremy, his dad, and Jordan all laid their hands on her and gave her a blessing of comfort. It was such a cool family experience. Especially since Jeremy's other brother (who has also fallen away from church) was in the room for it and agreed to fast with us all tomorrow. Maybe this is the wake up call and will serve as the turning point. I hope so. It was kind of interesting that today's family home evening lesson was going to be about how all things work for our good. At first glance, it seems ironic. But, perhaps they really do. Without some experiences, we wouldn't become the people we are meant to be. I just am so grateful tonight to the Holy Ghost and the comfort He can bring to us.

Day 5: My (Working) Body

Today Jeremy and I mowed the lawn. Not exactly the most "fun" thing to do. But pushing a mower and listening to the (muted) roar of its motor gave me lots of time to think. Although I didn't really enjoy mowing the lawn, I was glad that my body was able to do that. I'm not sure if that's really clear. Um, well some people have bodies that are afflicted with conditions so they can't walk very well, or their coordination isn't good, or their muscles/bones can't grow very strong. I'm so glad to have a functioning body that allows me to move around and do things. I can go on a walk. I can play catch. I can chase wildly energetic kids around. What a blessing that is! I don't have to sit at home cooped up all day, every day. It's pretty awesome if you think about it. Anywho...that's my thought for the day.

Day 4: My Apartment

So today I was thinking how lucky I was to have such a great apartment to live in. It comfortably fits us, it's pretty well upkept, and we're lucky enough to have free rent. That has been so nice these past 8 months and has allowed us to not be so much in debt with student loans and stuff.

I was also thinking about how some people don't have a place to sleep and keep their stuff. They don't have running water and showers and flushing toilets. Some people have huts with dirt floors and have bugs or other animals living in it with them. I am really lucky to live in this country and have such a nice place to live. It's probably better than some people could ever dream of having. And yet I can't wait to move on and get a house. Just one more thing I need to reevaluate and realize how good I have it.

Day 3: My Patriarchal Blessing

So last night I decided to re-read my Patriarchal Blessing. (Don't know what that is? Click here to learn more.) And it gave me such peace and comfort. Although it tells of tough times to come in my life, when I was reading it last night, I felt such peace. I knew that even though the road would be hard, my Father in heaven knew what was going to happen and He has a plan, even a plan of happiness. I realized that even when times get tough, I can choose to be happy. I can choose to focus on the positives in my life rather than the negatives. It made me want to change my attitude. Nothing major has happened to me yet, but I still sometimes have a hard time looking on the bright side. How much harder of a time would I have if I wait until those hard times to change my attitude? I sure don't want to find out. Anyway, those are my thoughts for the day. =)

Day 2: My Family

I am so grateful for my family. They are absolutely wonderful. I couldn't ask for a better family. I know they love me and would do anything for me. And my in-laws have totally accepted me as one of their own. I just can't even express how grateful I am for their love and support. Without them, I would not be who I am today. They have never given up on me and have always been there to cheer me on. And they have been such great examples to me of faith, kindness, service, and love, as well as giving me an example of how I want(ed) my life to be. So thanks everyone for everything you've done for me (and for all those things that you probably thought no one noticed. I did.)

(And no, not everyone is in this picture. This was just the picture that 1) had the most people in it and 2) you could see their faces.)

Day 1: Attitude of Gratitude

So, the other night I was having a pity party for myself. I'll admit it. I felt alone, left out, and unappreciated. I felt like nothing ever does/would go right. And I was a tad jealous. I'm not proud of it, but I was.

Fast forward to today when I'm reading the sweet thoughts of a stranger as she bared her soul to the cosmos in her blog. Man, I need to focus on the positives in life instead of being so darn negative. So here's to me developing an attitude of gratitude. It'll be hard, but I know it'll be so worth it. I need to forget about what I don't have and focus on what I do. Today starts 40 days of positive thinking. My goal is to write about something I'm thankful for each day.

Today is my husband. Boy, do I love him. I am such a lucky girl to have landed him. I couldn't imagine anyone better. He is so supportive and sweet. And he's fun. Lots of fun. He always knows how to make me feel better. And despite my flaws, he still loves me and puts up with me (which isn't easy, especially when I'm cranky.) What a guy. =) I know that he is going to be an awesome father to our kids. It has been so fun to see him interact with other kids and just imagine what he'll be like with our own.

Creativity

Okie dokie, so I'm finally posting pictures of my ceramics stuff. I had more, but ended up throwing some of it away because I had issues with cracks this quarter. =( No fun. But, I did get some good stuff! =) Here 'tis!

Here's a couple of bowls; they're all made from Goldstone clay with a clear glaze and colored stains.

Top view of the same bowls since some of them are different colors inside and out.

The other 3 bowls; the one on the right is my absolute favorite--you'll see why in the next picture.

Doesn't the purple look so cool?!? It was one color of stain, but for some reason it turned out multicolored with lots of depth. I love it!

And then finally, I've been working on an afghan for a while now. I bought the yarn and started it about a year ago but actually did most of the work in the last month or so. I really like how it turned out and am so proud that it looks so good! It's not perfect, but hey, it's my first afghan. =)

The whole afghan (it measures about 5 ft long x 3 ft wide

A close up of the pattern; I love the checkers of vertical/horizontal stripes! And it was so easy!

As for a real update...we really haven't been up to a whole lot.
  • School ended on the 10th and we've been really enjoying our time off. We've been busy with manager stuff (i.e. yard work and check-ins) and I've been doing some extra check-ins for the company to make a little extra money on the side.
  • Last week we celebrated our 3rd anniversary, which was pretty exciting. It's crazy to think it's been 3 years already! On the one hand, it feels like yesterday, but on the other it feels like it's been forever. Which is a good place to be, I think. =)
  • This week we're heading off to see some family that we haven't seen since our wedding, so we're really looking forward to that.
  • And then next week is Girls' Camp! I can't believe it! I'm a little nervous as it's my first time going to camp not as a camper! But I think it'll be fun. Hopefully the girls will like me.
Hop you all are doing well! =)

Oops!

So I missed May! (with a post, that is) And I have to say, I'm not terribly stressed about it. Not a whole lot happened. I deep cleaned/organized our spare room (and all the drawers of my craft dresser), went to school, and spent time with Jeremy. Haha! Pretty boring stuff.

Last weekend, however, we went to Seattle. My good friend, Danielle (she took our wedding photos), had a display in a gallery there for the month so we really wanted to go and see it. It was pretty freaking awesome, I must say. We had a lot of fun just hanging out with her and we also got to see a couple of friends who used to live here in Cheney. We met up with Kasey and Linley Coulson for lunch at Buca de Beppo (spelling?) and really enjoyed catching up with them. And then we went to church and found out that we were attending the new ward of Kevin and Kerri Nygard! It was really fun to see them and see how much their kids have grown in the less-than-a-year they've been gone. I'd post pictures, but regrettably, the camera was left at home. Thanks everyone--especially Danielle--for letting us come!

Institute graduation for me is coming up in a couple days, and finals is next week. Woot! (or not...as far as finals go anyway) I took a ceramics class again this quarter, so pictures of my stuff should be up in a little over a week. =)

April

Hello all! Seems like we've only been blogging once a month. I'd love to post more often, but it just never seems like there's anything to blog about. Just goes to show how boring our lives are, I guess. =)

This quarter is almost over! There's only a month left! On one hand, I'm way excited, but on the other hand I'm just thinking "oh crud!" because I feel like I have a ton left to do in my classes. But all in all, things are going good.

It's been nice to have the warmer weather after a couple weeks of winter-ish. I know that I'm sure enjoying the sunshine. Since Jeremy and I finally have a rope (courtesy of my parents; thanks mom and dad!!) we're looking forward to doing a lot of rock climbing this spring/summer/fall. And we can actually climb outside! woohoo!

Jeremy is working a few hours a week at the rock wall on campus, and I'm currently looking for a part time job. So if you hear of any openings, think of me and let me know! =) (just to clarify, they'd need to be in the Cheney/Spokane area; we're not going to be moving for a few more years)

Oh, my brother got his mission call! He is going to the McAllen, Texas mission (spanish speaking). He reports to the MTC on August 18th. We're all pretty excited for him. Way to go Garrick!!

Well, I think that about sums things up recently so I'll leave things there! Hope you're all doing well!

Corvallis

So last weekend (the 2-3 of April) Jeremy had a PCIA course he had to take in order to be able to work at the climbing wall here at Eastern. Since it was down at OSU, we decided to take Jeremy's sisters and make a trip of it. We left Thursday afternoon and stayed at my parents' overnight. Early Friday morning, we headed out of Pasco and down to Corvallis. It was horribly rainy. Pretty awful. And I was the lucky driver. Hooray for having a heart attack every time I drove through a huge, deep puddle because I was afraid I was going to hydroplane. But I didn't. Whew! We got down to Corvallis with plenty of time before Jeremy had class so we hung out in the hotel a little. It was pretty dumpy, but oh well. The girls and I chilled whenever Jer had class. It was a blast. Here's some pictures from the trip:

This is the Bonneville Dam as seen from the highway.

This was just a gorgeous view on the road along the Columbia River (the Oregon side). I love the fog in the valley!

One of the many waterfalls we passed on the way down.

This is Nikki (Jeremy's younger sister) on OSU's campus.

Jeremy's sisters Nikki and Erin posing together on OSU's campus.

I found out where Waldo lives!! ;) This was a building at OSU's campus. I thought it looked pretty cool, plus it had an awesome name!

On the way home, we stopped at Multnomah Falls. It was pouring rain, but we just had to get out and take some pictures. It was definitely worth getting soaked!

Spring Break

hello again, sorry it's been so long. =) Here's a little update:

Last week was Spring Break for us, so I went down to Tri-Cities to spend some time with my family. I actually left Thursday of finals week (by myself, since Jeremy had a final on Friday) and then Jeremy drove down on Monday and then we both headed back on Wednesday. I had a blast spending that much time with the fam, but I really missed Jeremy. It was definitely good to be back together.

Thursday I had a check-in to do (which is kinda why we came home Wednesday) and it went really well. Then some girls came over while the guys had an X-Box night and we decorated cakes and talked. It was fun. The rest of the week we've kinda just chilled. It's definitely been nice to have a little bit of down time before spring quarter starts. =)

Well, I think that's it! =)

Gratitude

So can I just say that I love this month's Ensign? I really felt like it was written for me. Pretty sweet. Anywho, there were a couple of articles that talked about gratitude, and I thought I'd start a list of some things I'm grateful for. =) (they're in no particular order)

Daffodils, lovely daffodils

Oh I love daffodils. Can you tell? They are my absolute favorite flower. Kind of an odd choice, I know, but they just look so sun-shiney. And they make me happy. =)

Funny story...so Jeremy asked me when we were dating what my favorite flower was. I told him "daffodils" and kind of explained why and stuff. Well, a couple weeks later (for Mother's Day, I believe) he bought me some cute lime green daisies and said something like "I know they're your favorite flower and they're one of our wedding colors so I thought they were perfect." He was so sweet that I didn't have the heart to tell him that they weren't actually my favorite flower. I eventually corrected him, and it's kind of been an inside joke from then on. Isn't my husband just the best? So sweet and thoughtful...

Anywho...now to an update on our lives...

This quarter has been brutal. For both of us. I was able to work things out with my teachers (and Jeremy was able to work things out with one teacher) so I could get decent grades in my classes, but it will put me a quarter behind for graduating. Hence, I will be graduating in Fall of 2010. As long as everything works out. Shouldn't prerequisites prepare you for a class? So one would think...but it seems to me that oftentimes that's not how it is. At least for Eastern. Boy will I be glad to be done.

The apartment manager stuff has been going pretty well. We've been fortunate to not get much snow this winter so we didn't have to do much shoveling. (We were really dreading that.) And there hasn't been a ton of other stuff to do so far. It's mostly been cleaning the laundry room, picking up trash, and dealing with a few tenant-related issues. But all in all, it's not too bad. It's definitely been worth the move.

Um...I don't think there's been much else going on, so I'm going to leave things here!

My testimony

I know this church is true and that it is the only true church on the earth. I know that my Heavenly Father lives, that He has a Son, even Jesus Christ, who was sent down here to atone for my sins. I know that He hears me and knows of my personal struggles. I know that through the Holy Ghost I can receive peace and feel of my Savior’s love for me. I know of the power of the Atonement—I have felt it and it is real. I know that I can strive to be a little better every day and that it will be enough if I give all that I am and all that I have to Him. I know that President Monson is a true prophet of God on the earth today and that he leads this church through divine revelation. I know that we have the blessing to be able to receive personal revelation for ourselves and our family. I know that the Lord will help us achieve anything that we have a righteous desire for as long as in His judgment it is right for us. I am grateful for the temple ordinances and the peace, hope, and knowledge they can bring to us. I am grateful for the opportunity to have a temple nearby. I am so grateful to my ancestors who heard the truth and accepted it as such. I am grateful that they remained faithful through all the many persecutions they endured when it would have been much easier to fall away. I leave my testimony with you in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Dear Government:

Please send me the money you owe me soon. Many thanks.

HAHAHA, so I got the taxes done! Yes, I did them at midnight. I'm a little crazy, I know. But it sure is nice when you're poor and have no dependents, etc. (and when your employers send your W2 forms early) It was so easy! Plus, we get a pretty big rebate! Yay! =D And even better, I got Jeremy's FAFSA done too!

I know, I'm weird. I actually kinda *enjoyed* doing the taxes. gasp! I'm not sure why.

On other notes, over the past month we have:
  • celebrated my birthday
  • gone to Ensign Ranch with my entire extended family on my mom's side for Christmas and lots of hilarity
  • gained about 10 pounds at the aforementioned soiree
  • celebrated New Year's as a couple as the weather wouldn't cooperate with our plans
  • sold all of our textbooks from last quarter + a few other pieces of junk that were laying around the house (yay for eBay!)
  • bought a few "fun" books
  • started a new quarter
  • gotten our car running again (and it hasn't sounded this good since we first got it)
  • gone to see Avatar in 3D
  • gotten new shoes
  • started working out to shed those 10 pounds we gained (my quads have been killing me for the past 2 days now)
  • made some cute magnets
  • made a cover for a cushion for the toy chest so it's comfy to sit on
there's probably more, but none of them are coming to mind at the moment. =) Hope everyone is doing well too!
